These woodlands provided timber used to make charcoal for the region's iron furnaces and forges in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Inn at St. Peter's Village is a nearby choice for lunch.

DIRECTIONS: Address: 191 County Park Rd., Pottstown, PA 19465 - Take I-176 South to Morgantown,proceed East on Route 23 approximately 9 miles to Warwick village. Turn right on County Park Road (between houses in the village). Proceed 1/4 mile to park entrance on the left.

Saturday October 31, 2026 - HALLOWEENIE FRENCH CREEK HIKE

4-6 miles moderate - dependent on Leader & Group

Follow leader on a hike in French Creek State Park at meeting place below. This will be followed by a MEMBERS ONLY campfire/roast with dessert which will be held at Yurts #1 & #2. 

HIKE MEET & TIME: 1:00 P.M.– French Creek Overflow Parking Lot for the Campground (on the RIGHT past the Campground Contact Booth)

DIRECTIONS: Rt. 724 to Birdsboro, turn right at light in Birdsboro, then next left. Make a right onto Rt. 345.  Continue on Rt. 345 until you see State Park sign at Park Road and turn right. Go until you see campground sign and turn right to the contact booth.  Park in the overflow parking lot for campground, on right past contact booth.

Saturday October 24, 2026 - TOM LOWE TRAIL

Approx. 6-7 miles, Moderate to difficult

Leave the parking area and group will be taken to the Sands Spring Trail. Hike will continue on the Sand Springs Trail to the upper end on top of the mountain. Group will then intersect from a side trail to the Appalachian Trail. Hike will then continue north to the Fire Road. Group will return to the parking lot via the Fire Road. 

MEET & TIME: 9:00 A.M. - State Game Lands 110, Shartlesville Parking Area

DIRECTIONS: From Old Route 22 in Shartlesville, take Forge Dam Rd. toward the I-78 interchange, continue past I-78 on Forge Dam Rd. and stay LEFT at the “Y” where Mountain Road goes right. Continue for 1.5 miles to the parking area.

Thursday October 22, 2026 - Thursday Wanderers - SWATARA STATE PARK

 5 miles, moderate

Leader will take us on a moderate 4 to 5 mile hike on a mountain bike loop in Swatara State Park in Northern Lebanon County. We will hike sections of loops A and B to get to Loop C. We will do the entire Loop C and return on A and B. We will meet at the trail head at the Mountain Bike complex (NOT Trout Run).

MEET& TIME: 10:00 A.M. at State Park Lane trail head

GPS: 0 Chapel Dr, Jonestown, PA 17038 should get you to the entrance to State Park Lane. (See directions!)

DIRECTIONS: Interstate 78 to Interstate 81North. Exit at first Exit (Lickdale/Ft Indiantown Gap, Route 72). Left at light on top of exit. Left at the next light (North on route 72). Continue on Route 72 until it changes to Route 443. 0.9 miles to the entrance to State Park Lane, turn right, continue to the parking lot on the left. (the sign for State Park Lane is hard to see, it is opposite of Chapel Drive.) If you get to Twin Grove RV Resort, you went too far.

BILLY YANK TRAIL (morning/all day hike)

9.7 miles – moderate (5.5-mile shorter version hike available as well)

This Trail was set up by the Boy Scouts of America and is meant as a historical experience within Gettysburg battlefield areas.

Follow US 222 S to PA Turnpike I-76 at the Denver/Ephrata entrance. Go 33.2 miles on turnpike. Take Exit 236 and merge onto US 15 S and travel for 30.8 miles. Take the PA-97 exit for Baltimore St. and turn Right onto the Baltimore Pike – go 1.4 miles and turn Left into the Gettysburg National Military Park. Travel for 0.7 miles on road, turn right and go 0.1 mi into parking area and go left for 105 feet to destination of Garsed Stone, Parking Lot #3.

Hike will be led as an in/out hike on the trail from the Stilling Basin towards the Red Bridge.

Saturday October 10, 2026 - D & L TRAIL (LEHIGH CANAL PARK) WEISSPORT TO JIM THORPE & RETURN

8 miles moderate pace

This is a beautiful fall walk along the Lehigh Canal in Weissport. Hikers will travel along canal towards Jim Thorpe and return to the start.

MEET & TIME:   10:00 A.M. at Weissport D&L Trailhead 46 Canal St. Lehighton, PA

DIRECTIONS: Travel on US 222 N towards Allentown, above Maxatawny Township make a left at the circle onto Schantz Rd. Follow Schantz Road for 3.2 miles and make a left onto 100 N and in 0.3 miles take on-ramp to US 78 E. Stay on right 2 lanes for 0.3 miles to merge onto US-22 at the US 78 E / Route 22 E split. In 1.4 miles take US 22 E to take exit onto I-476 N (PA-Turnpike). On turnpike, travel 18.4 miles to the Mahoning Valley exit 74. In 0.6 miles take right onto US-209 (Interchange Rd.) for 1.8 miles. Go immediately PAST Canal St and immediately turn right into the Lehigh Canal parking lot next CENTRAL LUNCH restaurant. This is the Weissport Trailhead Parking Lot 

GPS: 46 Canal St, Lehighton, PA (0ffical address – Lehigh Canal parking lot is next to Central Lunch Restaurant and is accessible right off of Bridge Street immediately past Canal St.)
