Membership in the BCHC is $10.00 per person per year in order to receive the quarterly newsletter. Further information on membership can be obtained when attending a scheduled hike. Other subgroups within the BCHC are the "Thursday Wanderers." Most hikes are followed by a dinner stop. We call ourselves "The Eating Club with a Hiking Disorder"! ****Hiking and Trail Guidelines: ** Be courteous & stay behind the leader unless directed otherwise.** Offer $.10/mile to driver when carpooling. * *In the event of inclement weather, the hike may be canceled.** Please leave your pets at home.**If unable to keep a club commitment, please find a replacement. * Wear blaze orange during hunting season (Sept 1 to last day of Feb). * Appropriate footwear and attire should match the type of hike.** If you leave the hike early, notify the hike leader or ask someone to do that for you.** Bring water and food as the hike description and weather demand.* * Hiking involves risk. Come out prepared and know your capabilities. Each hiker is responsible for their own safety and well-being.

Saturday June 26, 2021 - Green Lane Park

 4 to 5 Easy to Moderate Miles

Hike woodland trails and explore the park. Some hills are on this adventure.

Bring chair & lunch for after the hike.

1st Meeting place: 9:30am at Weis Market - 61 Kings Plaza in Oley (just off Route 73) to carpool/follow.

2nd Meeting place: 10:00am at the park - 2144 Snyder Rd., Green Lane

Directions: 

  • From Oley: Take Route 73 through Boyertown & Gilbertsville. Left turn to stay on 73 and continue to Frederick. Left onto Snyder Rd. to the park. At Deep Creek Rd., turn right and another right into parking lot by the park office.

Saturday June 19, 2021 - Swatara Rail Trail

4-5 Easy Miles

We will hike the rail-to-trail from the Lickdale Trailhead to the AT bridge in Swatara State Park in northern Lebanon County. This will be a "lollipop" hike with a stop at Union Canal locks and a visit to a new item in the park. Rain at 9:00am cancels the hike.

Meeting place: 10:00am at Lickdale Trailhead (off Monroe Valley Road) of the Swatara Rail Trail.

Directions: 

  • Interstate 78 to Interstate 81 North. Exit at the first exit (Lickdale/Fort Indiantown Gap, route 72). Left at light on top of exit. Make a left at next light (North on Route 72). At first intersection after State Police Station (approx. .85 miles), turn right on Monroe Valley road to the Lickdale Trailhead. If you reach Trout Run Trailhead parking lot, you went too far.

Saturday June 12, 2021 - Nolde Forest Park

 5-6 Moderate to Difficult Miles

Expect some hills as we meander through these woodland trails. Arrive early as parking lot gets full. Bring water. Steady rain cancels hike.

Meeting place: 9:30am at Sawmill Parking lot off Route 625.

Saturday June 5, 2021 - Pinnacle Hike via Pinnacle Side Trail

 7 to 8+ Difficult Miles

Join us on an "in and out" hole to the Pinnacle. We will hoke up Reservoir Road to the Appalachian Trail. Get ready for hills and rocks on this hike that may exceed 7 to 8 miles. 

Meeting place: 9:30am Hamburg Reservoir Parking area at the end of Reservoir Road.

Directions:

  • Take 61 North to Hamburg, bear right onto South 4th St., go approximately 1 mile. Then turn right onto State St., travel approximately 2.2 miles, turn left onto Reservoir Road, continue for 1.1 miles to the parking area.
