Membership in the BCHC is $10.00 per person per year in order to receive the quarterly newsletter. Further information on membership can be obtained when attending a scheduled hike. Other subgroups within the BCHC are the "Thursday Wanderers." Most hikes are followed by a dinner stop. We call ourselves "The Eating Club with a Hiking Disorder"! ****Hiking and Trail Guidelines: ** Be courteous & stay behind the leader unless directed otherwise.** Offer $.10/mile to driver when carpooling. * *In the event of inclement weather, the hike may be canceled.** Please leave your pets at home.**If unable to keep a club commitment, please find a replacement. * Wear blaze orange during hunting season (Sept 1 to last day of Feb). * Appropriate footwear and attire should match the type of hike.** If you leave the hike early, notify the hike leader or ask someone to do that for you.** Bring water and food as the hike description and weather demand.* * Hiking involves risk. Come out prepared and know your capabilities. Each hiker is responsible for their own safety and well-being.

Saturday October 30, 2021 - Blue Marsh Stilling Basin

 Approximately 6 1/2 miles

We will hike to the boat launch area, then back on old and new trails. No big hills but a few small ones. Bring a chair and lunch to eat by the Stilling Basin.

Meeting place: 9:30 a.m. at Blue Marsh Stilling Basin upper parking lot


Directions: Take Rte 183/Bernville Rd. exit from Rte 222 north. Turn left at CVS onto County WelfareRd. At Palisades Drive turn left, then right to Stilling Basin. Park in upper parking lot.

Saturday October 23, 2021 - Crow's Nest Preserve

 4-5 Mile moderate circle walk

Please bring a mask and be willing to wear it if the Preserve requires it in certain areas. Enjoy the splashes of fall colors in this easy walk through the forest and fields of this nearby preserve. We will walk on woods roads, the Horse-Shoe Trail, and other preserve trails. They will open the restrooms and meeting room and tell us briefly about their work if possible. Lunch after is an option.

Meeting place: 9:30 a.m. Hopewell Furnace Visitors Center (we will not start at the Crow's Nest parking lot!) 

Directions: South on Rte 345 from Birdsboro. Turn right onto Mark Bird Lane.

Saturday October 16, 2021 - Blue Marsh Lake starting at Lake Road

 5 Moderate Miles

The leader is trying this hike again and hope snow or rain doesn't cancel again. This is basically an in-and-out hike with some loops. There are woods, fields, views of the lake, and a few moderate hills. Snow and pouring rain will cancel. Call if uncertain on the morning of the hike. If the weather cooperates we can picnic afterwards at the parking area.

Meeting place: 9:30 a.m. at Blue Marsh Old Church Road parking lot

Directions: TakeRte183/Bernville Rd. exit from Rte222 north. Go approximately 5.5 miles and turn left onto Old Church Road. Parking lot is about 1 block from 183. We will then carpool about 2 miles to a smaller lot on Lake Road.

Saturday October 9 - Antietam Lake Park

 4-5 Moderate Miles

Utilizing numerous trails, the hike will commence at the Antietam Lake Park Trailhead. It will also include the Gravity Trail, which is rocky. There are some beautiful wetland areas. This should be a lovely hike as the trees will be putting on their autumn skirts. There are picnic tables by the Bingaman Nature Center and also by a man-made pond and wetland at Angora Fruit Farm which are perfect for a fall picnic lunch afterwards.

Meeting place: 9:30 a.m. at Antietam Lake Park Trailhead
Directions: Take Carsonia Ave. to the end in Stony Creek Mills. At stop sign, bear slight left and head
up Antietam Road. Halfway up hill, take left onto Angora Road and proceed to trailhead on left.

Saturday October 2, 2021 - Maidencreek Hike

 4 Easy miles

This is an easy in-and-out hike along the northern portion of Lake Ontelaunee, fairly level with one hill. The trail is gravel and one part may be a bit wet if there was recent rain. Rain cancels.

Meeting place: 9:30 a.m. at trailhead parking area.


DIRECTIONS: North on Rte 222 to Moselem Springs. Make a left onto Rte 662/Moselem Spring Road.Drive about 3 miles, passing McArdel's Pub on the left. Immediately after crossing the bridge, turn left into the parking area. (If you wish to avoid the round-about at Moselem Springs, turn left at Dunkin Donuts onto Farmers Drive, go to end and turn left onto 662.)
