Membership in the BCHC is $10.00 per person per year in order to receive the quarterly newsletter. Further information on membership can be obtained when attending a scheduled hike. Other subgroups within the BCHC are the "Thursday Wanderers." Most hikes are followed by a dinner stop. We call ourselves "The Eating Club with a Hiking Disorder"! ****Hiking and Trail Guidelines: ** Be courteous & stay behind the leader unless directed otherwise.** Offer $.10/mile to driver when carpooling. * *In the event of inclement weather, the hike may be canceled.** Please leave your pets at home.**If unable to keep a club commitment, please find a replacement. * Wear blaze orange during hunting season (Sept 1 to last day of Feb). * Appropriate footwear and attire should match the type of hike.** If you leave the hike early, notify the hike leader or ask someone to do that for you.** Bring water and food as the hike description and weather demand.* * Hiking involves risk. Come out prepared and know your capabilities. Each hiker is responsible for their own safety and well-being.

Saturday August 31, 2024 - Periphery of Nolde Forest

4 to 5 moderate miles

Mostly wooded, shaded area on a combination of trails.


1st Meeting place: 9:30 a.m. at 1000 Church Road Parking (12 spaces)


2nd Meeting place: 9:50 a.m. at Sawmill Parking off Route 625
Park wherever you can, we are going to meet at both places.


DIRECTIONS: Coming from Reading take Route 625, make a right at Church Road, parking is on your left after about a quarter mile (1000 Church Road). 

For Sawmill parking, continue on Route 625 for a quarter mile on your right.

Saturday August 24, 2024 - Bear Creek Ski Area

4.6 miles – Moderately challenging

This is a loop around Bear Creek Ski Resort with some good elevations in the first 1.5 miles and then mostly level or downhill. After event: Bear Creek Trail End Cafe at location.

Meeting place: 9:00 a.m. on parking lot at end of Doe Mountain Lane, Macungie


DIRECTIONS: Start from Sheetz on Rte 222 Fleetwood. Just past Sheetz turn R on School House Lane (small elementary school on R). Follow to end. At T in the road turn L on Fleetwood Lyons Road. (This road has a lot of names as it runs through areas.) Stay on this for 17 miles. Turn right on Doe Mountain lane and look for the parking lot for Bear Creek. Start at Entrance.

Saturday August 17, 2024 - Middle Creek Overlook Hike

Approx. 6 miles - Moderate

This hike will visit two overlooks with several hills to climb to get there. Lunch after will be at the Kville Hotel in beautiful downtown Kleinfeltersville.

Meeting place: 10:00 a.m. at the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Visitors Center

Directions: From 272 south, take Rte 897 north for 14 miles to Kleinfeltersville, then take the first left after the stop sign onto Hopeland Road, then travel 2 miles to the Visitors Center.

Saturday August 10, 2024 - Warwick County Park

4 to 6 miles

This is a hike through the forest of Warwick County Park. We'll take the Horseshoe Trail onto the Charcoal Trail and the Connecting Trail back to the Horseshoe Trail. This is planned as a 4-mile hike but can be extended to 6 miles. There will be 4 to 5 hills with a difficulty level of 4. Lunch option at the Inn at St. Peter's Village afterwards.

Meeting place: 9:30 a.m. at the parking lot at Warwick County Park


DIRECTIONS: 222 S to 422 E to I-176 E exit toward Morgantown. Take exit 2 to turn left onto PA-10N/PA 23 E for 9.3 miles. Turn right onto County Park Rd., turn left into Warwick Co. Park.

Saturday August 3, 2024 - Coventry Woods

5 to 5.5 moderately difficult miles

This loop hike in northern Chester County will encompass the perimeter of the main portion of Coventry Woods. We will climb to the ridge, go down the opposite side, then reclimb on our return.

1st Meeting place: 9:30 a.m. at the far front end of Boscov's East parking lot (4500 Perkiomen Ave) to shuttle. 2nd Meeting place: Coventry Woods. Pass the first parking area just over the hill when entering, turn left at the bottom of the hill, and park after the next left turn.

Directions for 1st meeting place: Take Rte. 724 east from Birdsboro. About three quarters of a mile past River Bridge Rd (the road/bridge leading to Douglassville), turn right onto Unionville Rd. All-Type Fence used to be located at this intersection, not sure what is there today. Follow Unionville Rd. 2.1 miles past Temple Church and Shenkel Church. Turn right at St. Peter’s Road, then after about half a mile turn left into Coventry Woods (Fernbrook Lane is to the right).

Directions for 2nd meeting place: From Route 23, take St Peter's Rd through St Peter's Village and continue for about 4 miles on St Peter's Rd. When you see Fernbrook Lane to the left, turn right into Coventry Woods.
