Saturday December 6, 2025 - RUSTIC PARK TO BIRDSBORO RESERVOIR AREA

3-4 easy miles length dependent on leader

A short walk to check out a new bridge over Hay Creek and walk to the scenic reservoir.

Note: After hike, those members attending Christmas Party should move their cars to the borough parking lot on East Main St. & N. Mill St. per flyer directions.

DIRECTIONS: Directions to the hike from 422 East: Turn right onto 345 toward Birdsboro. At the second light, go straight onto Furnace Street (Furnace Street becomes Haycreek Road). Go approximately .9 mile to Rustic Park past Hopewell St. on left and turn right down a hill to parking lot.

Saturday November 29, 2025 - LEHIGH PARKWAY ALLENTOWN (Lehigh County)

– 7 easy/mod miles

Seven miles out and back hike starting at the Fish Hatchery. Easy walk, modest elevation changes, interesting sights along the trail-- hunter’s cabin, Museum of Indian Culture, Bogert’s Bridge (oldest covered bridge in Lehigh County), etc.

DIRECTIONS: Route 78 to PA 29 (Cedar Crest Blvd). Stay on South on Cedar Crest for a little over a half mile. Turn left on Fish Hatchery Road. The parking lot is on the left.

Saturday November 22, 2025 - JOHN BARTRAM TRAIL & KERNSVILLE DAM

Meet at Kernsville Dam Parking Lot – 5 miles, easy to moderate

This is a hike via Hamburg River and Town trail. We'll hike through the Kernsville Dam reclamation meadow to the Schuylkill River trail. From this lovely stretch of trail, we'll cross to Hamburg Community Park, then up Franklin Street to Kaercher Creek Park, where we'll make a short loop. We'll finish by walking through downtown Hamburg to the trailhead and back along the river to the starting point. Lunch option afterward at Rico Casa, 1343 Hex Hwy, Hamburg

Saturday November 15, 2025 - WARWICK IRON BFURNACE HIKE

4 miles easy

We will meet at the historic Warwick Iron Furnace for a 4 mile Fall circular road hike. Add steps by going through part of the Thomas Bentley Reserve if the group votes "yes". I hope the Lavender Farm Shop is open for a visit on our way back - the November schedule is not on their website at this time.

PLEASE CARPOOL AS PARKING IS VERY LIMITED. Minimum 4 people per vehicle.

Saturday November 8, 2025 - PENDORA PARK TO EGELMAN'S / MT PENN PAGODA

4–5-mile moderate hike

This is a hike I used to do in my teens. This will be a nice walk for a fall day crunching through leaves on the fire trail. We will base our pace according to attendees. We will travel from above Pendora Park by the old East Reading Athletic Association, through Mineral Spring Park to Egelman’s Park and hopefully travel up to the Pagoda for a breathtaking city view. The length of the hike can be altered dependent on the group and timing of completion for Fall Meeting. Some of walk towards the Pagoda will be on the side of the road. Lunch location will be at Exeter Diner/ Fall Membership meeting will also take place. Bring water & snacks and wear boots. Bring Orange to wear just in case. Icy weather cancels.

Meeting place & Time: 9:30 am - Parking area by old East Reading Athletic Club (At the end of 19th street before entering Glenn Road) UPDATE: Park on 19th Street at available parking along road near Olivet's Club 330 S. 19th St. - we will walk to Mineral Spring Park & up to Egelman's Park.

Directions: Go towards Reading from Mount Penn on Perkiomen Ave past Aulenbach’s Cemetery, make a right onto South19th St. at the light. – keep following 19th Street and park by Pendora Park near the Olivet's Club - we will walk through to Mineral Spring Park from there.

Saturday November 1, 2025 - IRONTON RAIL TRAIL LOOP

5.5 – 6 miles easy/mod

This a relatively easy hike on the Ironton Rail Trail in Lehigh County. It is a multi-use trail with lots of historic roots and is an enjoyable walk with the railroad in mind!

Meeting place & Time: 9:30 am at 3853 Chestnut St trailhead. (From US 22 E Follow PA 145N and go right on Chestnut St and look for railroad car and parking lot.)

Directions: Follow US-222 N, take the PA 737 exit on US-222 N to get on to I-78E/US-22E in Weisenberg Township from Eagle Point Road, Mill Creek Road and US 22. Follow US-22E 6.6 miles to Exit for PA-145N/MacArthur Rd/ 7th St. Take the exit for Mac Arthur Rd, follow any signs to Mac Arthur Rd. Stay on Mac Arthur Rd for 3.8 miles, take a sharp right onto Chestnut St. (A Sheetz is on the far right of this intersection) Go 0.4 miles on Chestnut, Rail Trail parking lot is on right (See a pavilion that looks like a railroad station.)

Saturday October 25, 2025 - NORTH LAKE LOOP

Approx. 7 miles moderate to difficult, has hills (some options, see description below)

At the beginning, we can decide to do either a 3 or 6 mi on an easy part (no hills) as an in-out hike. After that we will continue into some hills and do the loop. Group’s choice. Wear Orange. Heavy snow or rain will cancel. Lunch is optional afterwards.

Directions:  Take Route 183 North. Pass the Blue Marsh Restaurant. In about 2.5 miles -Turn Left onto Old Church Road. Parking lot is on the left.

Saturday October 18, 2025 - LEASER LAKE

5 miles, moderate

We will hike around the perimeter trail of the Leaser Lake, just over the northern Berks line in Leigh County. The terrain will vary from open fields to deep woods and marshy areas. This hike is especially well suited for spotting many different birds and wildflowers. Lunch will be up to the hikers. A few options would be “The Westy” in Hamburg or “Fiore’s” in Shoemakersville. Call the leader if the weather is questionable. Wear Orange.

Directions: Take route 143 north out of Lenhartsville. Drive about 8 miles, make a left turn onto Pleasure Court, just before the large stone church in Jacksonville (about a mile past Wanamaker’s General Store).

Saturday October 11, 2025 - TREXLER NATURE PRESERVE (LEHIGH COUNTY)

7 strenuous miles

We will be starting our 7-ish mile hike using the southern parts of the Border Loop trail (many elevation changes, some steep). Next, our route will cover trails through the central part of the park, some of which are level, while others have quite a bit of elevation change. We will finish our trek using the northern and central sections of the Border Loop, which again, have multiple elevation changes. As a reward we will be treated to beautiful views on the way.This route eliminates the more challenging parts of the Border Loop and is a good choice for hikers who are not sure they are ready for the full 9.5 mile loop.

5 miles, easy to moderate

We will start at the Reading Museum Park, head towards the ice rink proceeding to the summit trail through the pine forest, loop back to the parking lot. The hike would be around 5 miles. Lunch will be at Laxmi Grill in Wyomissing PA

Approx. 7 moderate to strenuous miles

We will be hiking much of the Border Loop, but we will substitute and easier route in the middle part of the preserve. These trails have many elevation changes, some steep. Beautiful views. Should take about 4 hours on the trail. Lunch options afterwards.

Saturday September 20, 2025 - SAND SPRING LOOP TRAIL

4-5 moderate miles

This will be a 4 to 5 Mile loop with a brief stop to view bubbling Sand Spring.

Meeting place: 9:30 a.m. at State Game Land 110 Sharlesville Parking Area

Directions: From Shartlesville, take Mountain Rd toward Hamburg. Take Forge Dam Rd. to the left, where Mountain Rd bears to the right, for 1.5 Miles to the parking area. If you get to the entrance to the Amazon Warehouse (when coming from Shartlesville), you've gone too far on Mountain Rd.

Enjoy an early fall walk around the Pennside area! We will Travel through neighborhoods to enjoy the scenery. Mostly level streets and possibly some hills depending on if we travel up or down on Carsonia Avenue. Return for ice cream and burgers at the Pennside Drive In.

Saturday September 13, 2025 - BIRDSBORO PRESERVE

4-5 easy to moderate miles

Lots of water on this hike, as we will walk around the two prettiest lakes at the Birdsboro preserve (not the rock climbing lake), and along Hay Creek.  There is one rocky descent, but in general, walking sticks won't be needed.

Direcrtions: Note: NEW PARKING DIRECTIONS: Go 422 East, Right onto South Center Road. Make a Left onto Main Street. Right onto Chestnut St. (aka Rt. 345). Go about 2 miles, make a right onto Geigertown Rd. Go about 2.2 miles, then make a right onto Mullen Hollow Rd. Go till the first stop sign, right onto Hay Creek Rd. Immediately stay to the right to stay on Hay Creek Rd. Go to the end of the road, and park on the right side.

Saturday September 6, 2025 - EPHRATA RAIL TRAIL

4-5 easy miles

This is an enjoyable rail trail walk. We will travel as far as we want to go and turn around to return to the parking lot. Some of the trail can be quite sunny, be prepared. Lunch will follow at Gus’s Restaurant, 3687 Rothsville Road, Ephrata. Severe weather will cancel.

Meeting place: 10 AM. at Parkview Heights parking lot

Directions: Take Rte 272 south to Ephrata. Turn left at Wendy’s, (traffic light) onto Parkview Hgts Rd. Go about two blocks (notice yellow rail-trail signs) and at stop sign, turn left into parking lot.
