Membership in the BCHC is $10.00 per person per year in order to receive the quarterly newsletter. Further information on membership can be obtained when attending a scheduled hike. Other subgroups within the BCHC are the "Thursday Wanderers." Most hikes are followed by a dinner stop. We call ourselves "The Eating Club with a Hiking Disorder"! ****Hiking and Trail Guidelines: ** Be courteous & stay behind the leader unless directed otherwise.** Offer $.10/mile to driver when carpooling. * *In the event of inclement weather, the hike may be canceled.** Please leave your pets at home.**If unable to keep a club commitment, please find a replacement. * Wear blaze orange during hunting season (Sept 1 to last day of Feb). * Appropriate footwear and attire should match the type of hike.** If you leave the hike early, notify the hike leader or ask someone to do that for you.** Bring water and food as the hike description and weather demand.* * Hiking involves risk. Come out prepared and know your capabilities. Each hiker is responsible for their own safety and well-being.

Saturday March 31, 2018 - Hamburg Reservoir to Port Clinton


6 mod-to-strenuous miles 

Once again with climbs, rocks and a switchback descent, we will venture out on the A.T. hiking on the ridge that offers outstanding views of the valley below where we stop for a snack. Rain, snow, ice cancels. Optional lunch to follow. Hiking boots and poles are recommended.

Meeting place: 9:15 am, Port Clinton playground

st left off of Rt. 61 in Port Clinton to the playground parking lot (over the bridge and RR tracks)

Saturday March 24, 2018 - Hershey Hike


West we go thru Chocolate Town, past the Golf course and up the hill to the Hershey Cemetery, passing the Pa. State Police Academy. This is a part road hike and field and woods but it will most likely be windy for late winter day. Hike starts at 10:00 AM

1ST Meeting place: 8:30 am, Redner’s Market, 4870 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring

nd Meeting place: 9:30 am, Parking lot at the A fields off Washington St in Palmdale. This is the start point. We will shuttle vehicles to the end point at Sandbeach Rd and Swatara Rd parking lot just south of intersection

Saturday March 17, 2018 - Mill Creek Trail French Creek State Park


6 mod-to-diff miles 

We will be lead the way as we hike the white-blazed with red strip trail in the park. We will stop at Miller’s Point on the way back. There are many rocks, as you may know. There is a short cut you may want to take along with 2 easy stream crossings, plus 1 on a very short bridge, followed by a long hill on the way back. Lunch will be at the Exeter Diner.

Saturday March 10, 2018 - Scott's Run Hike


4 to 5 moderate miles

See French Creek State Park in the snow. This hike will be in the deep woods and pine forest on the Horseshoe Trail and other park trails. Hiking to the highest point in the park—the fire tower—we will then circle back past a “maple sugar bush.” If sap is flowing, we will stop for a brief visit to watch how the maple sap is collected and made into syrup. Expect some rocks and hills. Optional lunch later.

Saturday March 3, 2018 - Middle Creek Hike


5 to 6 moderate miles

This will be a scenic hike along some nice wooded trails looking for any snow geese or swans that may have arrived early. There will be some hills and stones to contend with. Bring water and snacks. There are several places in the area for lunch later.

Meeting place: 10:00 am, Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area Visitors Center

Directions: from Rt. 272 South in Adamstown, take Rt. 897 North for 14 miles into the village of Kleinfeltersville, take first left after the stop sign onto Hopeland Road then drive 2 miles to the visitors center
