General Club Facts:

Membership in the BCHC is $10.00 per person per year in order to receive the quarterly newsletter. Further information on membership can be obtained when attending a scheduled hike. Other subgroups within the BCHC are the "Thursday Wanderers." Most hikes are followed by a dinner stop. We call ourselves "The Eating Club with a Hiking Disorder"! ****Hiking and Trail Guidelines: ** Be courteous & stay behind the leader unless directed otherwise.** Offer $.10/mile to driver when carpooling. * *In the event of inclement weather, the hike may be canceled.** Please leave your pets at home.**If unable to keep a club commitment, please find a replacement. * Wear blaze orange during hunting season (Sept 1 to last day of Feb). * Appropriate footwear and attire should match the type of hike.** If you leave the hike early, notify the hike leader or ask someone to do that for you.** Bring water and food as the hike description and weather demand.* * Hiking involves risk. Come out prepared and know your capabilities. Each hiker is responsible for their own safety and well-being.

Saturday December 4, 2010 - Trexler Nature Preserve

8 – 9 miles (Challenging– Maybe?)


Follow our hike leader as he explores this area. The Trexler Nature Preserve rates this trail as strenuous, but the hike leader says Moderate!

Saturday November 27, 2010 - Chickies Rock County Park in Marietta

No mileage listed


Hike along the Susquehanna River through 3 parks with great views. Weather will determine the length of the hike. Trails are rocky so wear good hiking boots. As always, bring snacks & water.

Saturday November 20, 2010 - Pequea Creek in Silver Mine Park, Lancaster County

approx. 5 miles


Come and join the group as they traverse trails along the beautiful Pequea Creek in Silver Mine Park, Lancaster County. This park was once home to a trailer park and campground and contains a real silver mine. We will start the hike along a hike/bike trail and continue through fields, woods, around the pond and a geology walk through the old mine area.


Meeting place: 9:00 am, Ollie’s lot (closed Giant & AC Moore); Bsns 222 & 724, Lanc. Ave Shillington


Driving Time: One way drive time = 40 minutes; distance = 34 miles

Saturday November 13, 2010 - St Lawrence Mountain Hike

approx. 5-6 miles


Ever wonder about that mountain at the base of the Antietam Valley shopping center in St Lawrence? This may be a new area to some club members. There are some nice views, which means hiking hills to get to them! Since this area used to be the water source for the St. Lawrence Borough, some trails could be wet. Also some rocky sections. Wear hiking boots and don’t forget snacks and water.


Meeting place: 9:00 am, at playground corner of Adams & Jacksonwald Ave., off St. Lawrence Ave.


Directions: From Perkiomen Avenue in Mt Penn, (at McDonald’s) turn onto St Lawrence Avenue. Go past 2 traffic lights then left onto Adams St. one block to playground on your right

Sunday November 7, 2010 -Arts Park & Symphony in Allentown

Part V of Arts Park Series!

1.5 mile loop


A 1.5 mile loop walk through Allentown Park, crossing 8th Street bridge, then returning to the Arts Walk, Art Museum (free), then enjoying the 3 pm Allentown Symphony Concert, followed by a “brew” at the Allentown Breworks.

Saturday November 6, 2010 - Spring Creek Hike

approx 4 miles

This will be an In & Out hike along the Blue Marsh trail system. Mostly flat and easy, with views of the lake. Lunch afterwards at Ganley’s Pub.


Meeting place: 10:00 am, Spring Creek Parking Lot


Directions: Take State Hill Road and turn left at the T onto Brownsville Road (at Ganley’s Pub); go through Brownsville (don’t blink) and then right into the parking lot
