Membership in the BCHC is $10.00 per person per year in order to receive the quarterly newsletter. Further information on membership can be obtained when attending a scheduled hike. Other subgroups within the BCHC are the "Thursday Wanderers." Most hikes are followed by a dinner stop. We call ourselves "The Eating Club with a Hiking Disorder"! ****Hiking and Trail Guidelines: ** Be courteous & stay behind the leader unless directed otherwise.** Offer $.10/mile to driver when carpooling. * *In the event of inclement weather, the hike may be canceled.** Please leave your pets at home.**If unable to keep a club commitment, please find a replacement. * Wear blaze orange during hunting season (Sept 1 to last day of Feb). * Appropriate footwear and attire should match the type of hike.** If you leave the hike early, notify the hike leader or ask someone to do that for you.** Bring water and food as the hike description and weather demand.* * Hiking involves risk. Come out prepared and know your capabilities. Each hiker is responsible for their own safety and well-being.

Beltzville Dam Hike and Paddle - Saturday Sept. 27, 2008

5 miles

This is a relatively flat hike on the densely wooded north side of the Beltzville Dam near Lehighton. After the hike, we can paddle or relax on the south side of the lake. Bring "viddles" (lunch) and your canoe or kayak, if desired. Bad weather is not good!

First Meeting place: 9:30 am at Redner's Market on route 61 North in Leesport

Happy 100th Birthday Pagoda - Saturday Sept. 20, 2008

5 to 7 miles

Hike from City Park to the trails of Mt. Penn enjoying some history along the way. We will hike back to the Pagoda along the temporary railway line used to deliver supplies for its construction. At noon, we will enjoy a slide presentation by Corrie Crupi on Pagoda and Mt. Penn history. Please come prepared for the hike and the weather.

Meeting place: 10:00 am at the City Park parking lot next to the white building or at noon at the Pagoda for the slide presentation.

This is a six mile hike led by Karl Gardner at this Montgomery County Park. The trails are rated moderate with some hills. Bring lunch.

Shillington Park Hike - Saturday Sept. 6, 2008

Meet Doug for a hike around the park and also some trails in the deep, dark, spooky woods nearby. There are some hills and some steep descents so wear descent clothing! Lunch afterwards, of course!

Money Rocks Park - Saturday August 30, 2008

Meet at the Clock Tower Plaza to carpool to Money Rocks County Park with the legendary Clyde Godschall.

Mt Gretna/ Dinosaur Rocks - Saturday August 23, 2008


Approx 6 miles

This hike is in state gamelands starting on Pinch Road and walking across the ridge to Dinosaur Rocks. Modest hills and off-road hiking in woodlands except for one long sunny section. (Unless, of course, it's a cloudy day!) Bring water.

Meeting place: 9:30 am, in Lowe's parking lot at Routes 222 & 724 ( on Shillington- Sinking Spring Road) Use the right (East) corner of the lot using the furthest spaces from the Garden Center.

Full Moon Hike - Sunday August 17, 2008

4 miles, very flat

If you feel that historic mood coming on, meet at Boyer's IGA for an evening history hike along the Tulpehocken Creek in Marion Township. CAUTION: Frequent breaks for significant events.

Pagoda & Tower Moonlight Hike - Saturday August 16, 2008


3 miles

Come enjoy a hike on Mt Penn in the moonlight. After seeing the sunset from the Pagoda, we will hike no more than 3 miles from the Pagoda to the Tower and back. The Tower will be open for the best view in town! Please come prepared with sturdy walking shoes and a flashlight. If the weather is in doubt, call the leader.
